Progressive motion of museums to a virtual space
Proposed by ADIT
The digital era allows museums advantages and requires refreshing of their attitude to the public services.
Global process of digitalisation and elaboration of virtual reality, application of popular gadgets and internet activity result in appearance of new terms and transformation of old views on the museum activity.
Museums are in need to understand which functions are possible in both spaces, real and virtual, and what is available only in ‘virtuality’. The new disciplines appear in parallel or separately from the basic one, e.g. virtual archaeology. All these issues need correct naming of entities, i.e. actual and correct terminology.
The scope of the round table/seminar is to discuss the term ’virtual museum’ and the proposals of the terminological support from ICOM/AVICOM.
